New Driver Killed USBs


It was counterfeit. after I upgraded my laptop to Windows 10 .. 2/3 USB ports stopped working .. This will force your computer to check all of your hardware again. The issues are the previous FTDI drivers not working properly with the clones. http://gagc.net/not-working/cant-use-usbs.php

Counterfeit chips can enter the supply chain from multiple places along the line that may not be in your control. You would still be just fine with the air conditioner detecting that the patented formula once running through its veins is now computer duster and then, on purpose, locking the rotor thank you. I can't connect to the net to run Windows Update again, and I can't back up my files since I have no USB connectivity.

Obviously this wasn't a great way to handle it by FTDI - much smarter would've been to just fail to work with these chips and try to throw an error message

Thank you! Updating the drivers don't quite work. Then they must give you a chance to voluntarily forfeit the device. Maybe force us to see it 10 times before giving us the option of hiding it.
