if i plug my old white USB keyboard in - everything works. My browser will not... I'm just bewildered that it recognizes the keyboard, but not the function keys during bootup.If I create a bootlog, will that help?

I had problems with it at first, but I fixed everything and the keyboard works fine now. They're pretty easy to make. However, for some reason, the F2, and in fact all the F buttons, do not work during post. useful reference The Option key to choose startup disk doesn't work.
