However, I'd guess this is a few years old now, so you might prefer to invest in a new terabyte drive instead.
Even if you screwed up the making of the boot disk and for some reason it wasn't boo-table, you should at least get a message from BIOS telling you to provide Off-topic comments will be removed. After you've recovered the data you care about, that drive can often have a very useful second life as an external drive. Swapping Hard Drives Between Computers Just a thought. I have not tried this with Windows 7 but I assume it will automatically recognise the drives and not throw the kind of hissy fit that sometimes happened with DOS-based versions partition of c drive of old HDD to g drive of a new HDD but couldn't run the computer with the new HDD.

Something else is wrong. The sysprep /generalize command removes unique information from your Windows installation, which enables you to reuse that image on different computers. Free alternatives include Runtime's DriveImage XML (free for personal use), Easeus Todo Backup Free and Paragon Backup & Recovery 2012. That would be cloning the drive but I do not recommend doing that on a failing drive.
