Once you start the game, just alt tab and close it. As for how the PC freezes, it just locks at the screen it is at the point of time, no black screen, no blue screen, just at the point where it I really can't guess what it is, but trying this won't hurt if you haven't. The crashes seem to happen the most often while I'm in a game.
After disabling your dedicated graphic card, you might get lower performance in video games, but random freezes should be fixed. Also be sure to check for graphic card updates.
